Historical Summery

In the beginning the history of the Great Japanese Dog is similar to the history of the Japanese Akita. In1868 the Akita were crossbred with Tosa’s and Mastiffs. After world war 2, some soldiers brought them in the USA. The breeders loved them. Japan didn’t want to recognise this breed as an Akita. In 1999 Japan decided the shout be named Great Japanese Dog. Only country’s how are whit the FCI name them Great Japanese Dog. Great Brittan, Canada and the USA still call them Akita.
